joekincheloe.us is dedicated to preserving and promoting the works of the great American educator, philosopher, and author, Joe Lyons Kincheloe, and to stimulating the application of his educational theories, Critical Psychology of Complexity, Critical Bricolage, Critical Complex Epistemology, and Critical Constructivism, throughout the world.

Our mission is to work toward making education the best it can be. We believe great leaps toward this mission can be accomplished through the wide promotion and dissemination of Joe's work as well as by encouraging and promoting further research and creative applications of his critical-based theories, in particular, his critical complex epistemology and multidimensional critical complex bricolage for knowledge production.

Therefore, the work on this site and our other sites is dedicated to a record and review of his numerous works and his research, a presentation of the multiple ways educators may creatively apply his theory within various learning environments and across disciplines, and activism in important movements that have a major impact on free speech and open access to knowledge and knowledge production. The primary role is the expanding of consciousness and awareness that leads to transformation and the actions that will ultimately contribute to social justice and, as Joe always framed it, "the alleviation of human suffering."

As Joe stated, "the notion of criticality at its core revolves around the effort to understand the causes of human suffering and to do what is necessary to end it. A critical complex epistemology begins with the effort to internalize the nature of this suffering and to use such an understanding as grounding for not only all knowledge that we produce but also to reshape who we are in the world" (Knowledge and Critical Pedagogy: An Introduction, p. 229).

As Joe explains, "A critical complex epistemology is dedicated to bringing individuals who had been traditionally excluded to the scholarly conversation no matter how déclassé such an objective appears to the privileged epistemological trolls . . . " (p. 58).

Our Online Acquaintance

We first met online in his research discussion forum, engaging in discussions from about April 2008 until he passed away, December, 2008. We had many discussions about his critical complex bricolage, among many other topics. I had the greatest respect and admiration for Joe. Having read one of his book chapters before synchronistically coming across his website, and following up by reading more of his work, and observing how he so lovingly engaged with everyone, I regarded him a Master Teacher of Master Teachers (in an academic sense) the entire time I worked with him.

The Day We Met (July 31, 2008)

We shared our hilarious border crossing stories and we both laughed so hard that day! It truly was like we were long, lost friends who picked up right where we had left off.

PSYCHE & EROS, THE GOD OF LOVE?
I was amazed when I found this photo many months after Joe had passed away, that I had taken the day we met and how the light above his head is so bright, like a halo or an enlightened one. Humorously, my name, Vanessa means Psyche and Joe's name is hidden in Eros. According to the story, Psyche is an earthling and Eros often hid because he did not want anyone to know he was a god with wings. Also, in the story, Psyche woke Eros up by shining the light on him, and then later, Eros had to wake Psyche up. It's really a very beautiful story of love, egalitarianism, science, spirituality, and other great truths all rolled into one.

The Present

Joe KincheloeShortly after Joe passed away on December 19, 2008, we were married in the Higher Realms (on January 28, 2009). After that, he led me on many "vision quests." Honestly, at the time I had no clue what was happening. I was not a "spiritual" person. I did not even believe in the concept of soul mates, much less Twin Flames/Twin Souls. What would happen, though, is that I would lie down on my bed and then he was there, guiding me through what appeared to be a vortex or a wormhole. When we got to the end of it, we ended right up at the walkway and front steps of a beautiful, but modest "mansion." It was our home. Through what I later learned is "remote viewing" and telepathic communication, he showed me all through and around our home, which sits on a hilltop above the ocean with gardens and a winding path down to a lovely crystalline beach. A few days after showing it to me the first time, I decided to research his hometown, Kingsport, TN, and was amazed to find the exact same home (which the one in the Higher Realms had been designed from by the very same people who had originally owned it). It's called the Allendale Mansion and in the Higher Realms, it's our "Master Retreat," given to us as a wedding gift. As I learned more, I came to discover that we are working with the Brotherhood of Light. He's been working on becoming first a Cosmic Master, and now he's working on becoming a Celestial Master, and I've been following in his footsteps. He has been my husband and teacher all along.

This is our Master Retreat. I took a trip to Kingsport, TN and took this photograph. It looks just like our home in the Higher Realms. We also have a home now in even higher Realms that looks like the Taj Mahal.

Our Dream Home - Allendale Mansion

It's surprising how similar in form our two mansions are. . . which is what one would expect from ascending from one realm to a higher realm. I believe we also have one in the Celestial Realms, which is even higher, but I've not seen it yet.

He also chose to take on his younger appearance. I have learned that this, too, often happens when people pass over. They tend to choose to go back to how they appeared at about thirty years of age, hence, this photo represents his appearance now. And this is a more recent photo of me taken in September, 2011.

Big Deal-Catch Up
“As a child I wanted so desperately for magic to be real. I would work for hours collecting what I hoped were just the right combination of ingredients to make some type of magic potion that would provide me with special powers….I found such magic in words viewed in a postformal matrix and I observe and practice that magic everyday.” (Kincheloe, 2006, Reading, Writing, Thinking, p. 13)
